Medical teams from the Stort Valley and Villages Primary Care Network will be offering Covid-19 vaccinations at a walk-in clinic in Bishop’s Stortford this Sunday (January 9).
Pfizer jabs for first, second and booster immunisations will be available to anyone aged over 16 from 8.30am to 5pm at the Research and Development Advisors UK Stadium at Woodside off Dunmow Road.
Across East Herts, figures on Monday showed there have been 30,983 cases of coronavirus in total. Of these 1,908 occurred in the last seven days but because it takes time for tests to be processed, the figures are provisional. If the most recent five days are excluded, there have been 2,806 cases in the last (less provisional) week resulting in an incidence rate of 1,848.7 cases per 100,000 population as the Omicron variant drives infections.
Dr Rachel Joyce, director of clinical and professional services at Herts and West Essex Clinical Commissioning Groups which includes Bishop’s Stortford, Sawbridgeworth and Stansted said: “We’re asking all those who have been putting off getting their booster to make the most of this special time of year to get jabbed. The wonderful staff and volunteers at our vaccination sites are ready and waiting to boost your immunity to Covid so you can start the new year with the maximum protection possible.
“The vast majority of those currently in hospital with serious complications from Covid are unvaccinated. All of our sites offer first and second doses as well as boosters – it’s not too late to catch up. Getting a vaccine is the single biggest step you can take in protecting yourself, your family and friends from Covid.
“Infection rates are still high and the more of us that get fully vaccinated the more chance we have of getting back to normal quickly and reducing the pressure on our hospitals.”
Those eligible for a vaccine include:
• Anyone aged 18 or over who had their second dose more than 12 weeks ago.
• Anyone over 18 who has not yet had any vaccine.
• 12 to 15-year-olds ready for second vaccination three months after their first dose.
• Immunocompromised patients eligible for a fourth vaccine dose three months after their third jab.
• Pregnant women who can be fast-tracked at any vaccination site for a first, second or booster dose.
