As the rollout of the Pfizer vaccine continues in the U.S., hundreds more hospitals are vaccinating their workers today. Meanwhile, the FDA said its preliminary analysis confirmed the effectiveness and safety of the Moderna vaccine. According to Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. has surpassed 300,000 COVID-19 deaths, and some of the places that have been hit the hardest are nursing homes and long term care facilities. They are in great need of a covid vaccine, and four hundred health care facilities around the country are receiving their shipment today. U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Alex Azar, says all nursing home residents could be vaccinated by Christmas. Azar also says, “States and other jurisdictions have decided who will be vaccinated in the early stages, drawing on their own best judgment.” Others, such as Sr. Constance Viet, who runs the U.S. communications for the Little Sisters of the Poor, a group that takes care of the elderly in facilities around the country, are worried that they won’t receive enough initial vaccine doses to cover all those in need. Correspondent, Mark Irons reports.
