The series finale of Hawkeye actually managed to answer more questions than any of the other MCU series finales so far. That said, there were still plenty of loose ends left for speculation until they are tied up in future films and series.
Some items were put to bed while others were teased to have bigger implications in the greater MCU. Some things were left completely ambiguous, presumably to specifically be explored in another series down the road. While fans are certainly hoping for answers, as they always are, some things may not get resolved for some time with the MCU taking a turn toward the multiverse.
9 Is There More To Jack Duquesne Or Eleanor Bishop?
Jack Duquesne was teased to be an antagonist throughout the series but was really just an innocent man who loves swords. His finance, Eleanor Bishop, had framed him in order to keep her and Kate free from the reach of the law. Jack is known by the name Swordsman in the comics and served as a mentor for Hawkeye. While Jack doesn’t know Hawkeye in the MCU, it’s not too late for Jack to become a mentor to Kate.
While Madame Masque goes by another name in the comics, many fans speculated that Vera Farmiga’s character would be revealed as this villain due to the connection to Kingpin. With Eleanor Bishop going to prison, it’s still possible for this reveal to be made in a future MCU property, perhaps Season 2 of Hawkeye.
8 Will Moira Brandon Be Important In The MCU?
Kate Bishop’s mysterious movie star aunt was never introduced in the series, but her name holds some weight. In the comics, Moira Brandon was an elderly actress that not only provided Hawkeye and the West Coast Avengers with a home base, but she also saved Hawkeye from a villain with a crossbow.
Perhaps Moira Brandon was introduced to set the stage for a West Coast Avengers team led by Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye. With so many young heroes being introduced it’s entirely possible for there to be a Young Avengers team and a West Coast Avengers team fighting side-by-side.
7 Where Did The Owl Take The Tracksuit Mafia Bros?
There was originally a post-credits scene showing the owl returning to its nest with the miniature truck full of bros, but fans received a full-blown musical number instead. An interesting Easter egg that fans might have missed is that the owl in the tree was a nod to a real-world owl, nicknamed Rocky, that was a stowaway on the 2020 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
Unfortunately, there is no real-world parallel to provide fans with an answer on the abducted Tracksuit Mafia members. It seems very non-family-friendly to assume they were eaten by the owl, perhaps fans will get closure after Clint reconnects with Scott Lang for more Pym tech arrowheads.
6 What Happened After Maya Shot Kingpin?
Maya points a gun right at Kingpin’s head but then the camera pans up before the shot goes off, leaving Fisk’s fate a bit ambiguous. Considering there were so many visual cues from the comics and such a heavy comic influence on the plotline, it’s likely that this altercation is setting up a storyline where Kingpin is blinded by this gunshot wound, but otherwise unharmed.
Maya Lopez was a very interesting character and fans are certainly looking forward to Echo, though some kind of tease as to what the story will be about would have been appreciated. It’s entirely possible that Kevin Feige and Marvel have yet to determine the minute details of these characters and their coming character arcs, but leaving things so ambiguous for two brand new characters was a bit cruel on Marvel’s part.
5 Does The Number 19 Mean What We Think?
Fans finally get confirmation on who owns the watch from the Avengers’ compound and it belongs to Clint’s wife, Laura Barton. In the finale, she turns it over, revealing a S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem and a small “19”. Many comic fans were quick to realize that the “19” was likely in reference to Agent 19 who is also known as Mockingbird. Mockingbird is the alias of Bobbi Morse in the comics and she is also married to Hawkeye.
Making “Mockingbird” a passable mantle rather than a person is a clever angle to play, this allows Bobbi Morse to enter the MCU. Making Laura a former Mockingbird excellently pays homage to the comics and also makes their MCU relationship a lot more interesting, suggesting they’ve served on a few missions together before Laura hung up the batons.
4 How Will Clint & Kate Get More Trick Arrow Shafts?
Clint indicates that while he can fashion new trick arrowheads, the shafts are much harder to come by. He even tasked Kate with retrieving shafts that had been locked away in a police evidence locker so they had enough for the final battle. Several arrows were destroyed in the final battle and it’s highly unlikely that Clint went back through the entirety of Rockefeller Plaza to find the remaining shafts.
Perhaps Clint was just messing with Kate to keep her busy while he did some serious Avenger work, perhaps Hank Pym has learned to develop a more advanced type of arrow shaft for Scott’s bow and arrow buddy. Considering Clint and Kate needed several trick arrows to fight some non-superpowered street thugs, fans are certainly expecting many more trick arrows in future Hawkeye appearances.
3 How Exactly Did Clint Acquire Pym Tech?
Fans learn that Hawkeye has some kind of working relationship with team Ant-Man after he uses arrows emblazoned with the Pym name and logo. However, considering Hank Pym’s legal troubles surrounding the unauthorized use of his tech in the past, it seems odd that he would be so willing to provide Hawkeye with tech, especially tech with his name on it.
Scott is a talented electrical engineer, but he is not capable of developing Pym tech on his own. Clearly, Hank has to be involved to some degree. Fans are dying to learn about the specifics of this arrangement, perhaps Clint will make an appearance in the Ant-Man threequel, looking for new Pym tech or arrow shafts.
2 Are Kingpin & The Tracksuits Using Some Kind Of Super Soldier Serum?
Ivan of the Tracksuit Mafia showcases some unique strengths above the standard Tracksuit Mafia goon, but nothing near Cap’s level. He is able to shatter a car window with relative ease and the USB arrow simply bounced off of him leaving some fans wondering about Ivan’s strength. While the window break was likely standard action and the arrow bouncing off was probably meant as a joke, the window didn’t really hurt him and even a dull-tipped arrow traveling at high velocities should have done some damage.
Kingpin is clearly on a different level, not only showcasing incredible strength but also shocking durability and endurance during his fight with Kate. With the reemergence of the Super Soldier Serum in TFATWS, it’s entirely possible that there were labs and safe houses manufacturing or storing plenty of the Serum outside of Madripoor.
1 Could Wilson Fisk Be The Power Broker?
While many MCU fans were quick to assume that some suggestions made Sharon Carter the Power Broker at the end of TFATWS, most true MCU fans are waiting for formal confirmation from Marvel. While there are some compelling arguments for why Carter is the Power Broker, there are just as many to argue against the idea.
Wilson Fisk actually being the Power Broker not only makes much more sense, but it also makes his character arc (and Sharon’s) much more compelling. Establishing Fisk as a big-time player overseas makes him more than just a New York threat and he could even connect to the mutant world through Madripoor. Using Carter as a double agent, gaining his trust while trying to bring him down, makes much more sense for her character and gives her more potential in Cap 4. Regardless of the direction Marvel chooses to go on this one, a definite decision would be appreciated by fans, and making Fisk a true Kingpin in multiple countries could make him a serious Avengers-level threat.
