David De Gea and Scott McTominay have congratulated on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop on reaching Wembley with Mansfield.
Bishop has spent the season with Nigel Clough’s side and they are 90 minutes away from making it to League One via the play-offs.
Next Sunday, Bishop and Mansfield will take on Port Vale for a place in the third tier and the goalkeeper took to Instagram to celebrate that achievement.
They beat Northampton Town 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals, having finished seventh – the final play-off spot in League Two – by a point.
Ahead of the senior side’s final game of the Premier League season, there are clearly two of the players keeping an eye on Bishop’s progress.
Scott McTominay and David de Gea sent messages of congratulations to the goalkeeper ahead of what will surely be the biggest game of his career.
Playing on such a big stage with so much at stake will be crucial for his development and underlines the benefit of loan spells for talented young players.
Bishop will actually come up against a former United academy graduate at Wembley in the shape of Vale striker James Wilson.
Wilson got gametime under Ryan Giggs and Louis van Gaal but it did not work out for him at Old Trafford but he has found his feet in the fourth tier.
That means there are a couple of reasons United fans may tune into the final, where Bishop will be hoping to round off a successful loan spell in the best possible way.
