{"id":37769,"date":"2021-07-06T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-07-07T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldcatholicnews.com\/ohio-enacts-health-care-conscience-protections\/"},"modified":"2021-07-06T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T00:00:00","slug":"ohio-enacts-health-care-conscience-protections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldcatholicnews.com\/ohio-enacts-health-care-conscience-protections\/","title":{"rendered":"Ohio enacts health care conscience protections"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>\u201cConscience freedom is a civil right which must be protected so that medical professionals have the freedom to care for patients from a scientific, moral and ethical standpoint,\u201d Parker said.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation states that when medical professionals decline to perform or assist in a procedure because of conscientious objections, they must report their objection to their supervisor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Then, \u201cwhen possible and when the medical practitioner is willing,\u201d the practitioner should attempt to transfer the patient to a colleague who will provide the requested procedure.
