Late last February, just a few weeks before the world would be shut down do to the coronavirus, the San Francisco Giants played the Seattle Mariners in a preseason game. It was a symbolic game, because it featured Hunter Bishop — the Giants first-round pick in 2019, and the first player drafted by Farhan Zaidi since joining the organization — and his brother, Braden Bishop.

That was the first time that the two brothers played against each other, and now there’s a chance that they’ll play together. On Monday, the Giants claimed Braden off of waivers from the Mariners, and optioned him to the AAA Sacramento River Cats.

Right-handed pitcher Reyes Moronta was moved to the 60-day Injured List to make room for Braden on the 40-man roster.

At 27 years old, Braden is nearly five years older than his little brother. He also comes with some MLB experience, as he’s earned 99 plate appearances with Seattle over the last three seasons, during which time he hit .133/.188/.156. And he comes with an enormous stamp of approval from Hunter.

No matter what anyone says about his baseball (all you haters), he’s the type of human to leave a lasting impact and legacy. Couldn’t be more proud of this guy. Love you @bradenbishop7 https://t.co/tRtcP7Uhrr

The brothers are very close, and it’s safe to say this is a dream come true for the both of them. Hopefully Braden is still on the roster in February so the two can partake in a full Spring Training together. Wouldn’t that be special.
