Last ranking in parenthesis. Note: This is a pound-for-pound poll.
1. Hingham (4) – The Harbormen have been totally dominant this fall and have outscored foes 35-6. Every Hingham win has come by at least three goals. The Harbormen end the season with games against Whitman-Hanson (Wednesday) and Marshfield (Saturday). Hingham is well on its way to securing a Patriot League Keenan Division title.
2. Canton (3) – New year, same level of dominance for the Bulldogs. Canton is off to a 5-0 start and opened the season with three consecutive shutouts. Two games against Foxboro this might be Canton’s stiffest test this season.
3. Archbishop Williams (5) – On Sunday, the Bishops defeated Austin Prep, 3-2, to secure one of their biggest wins of the season. Williams is 6-0-3 with a 31-14 goal differential this season. Along with strong showings against Catholic Central League opponents, the Bishops opened the season with wins over Division 1 Weymouth and Bridgewater-Raynham.
4. Scituate (NR) – Scituate missed nearly three weeks of its season due to a COVID-19 pause but the Sailors have been on fire since returning. Most notably, Scituate handed Hanover its first loss of the season, 4-2, on Jan. 27. The win allows the Sailors to control their own destiny in the Patriot League Fisher Division title race, as Hanover also has a tie on its ledger.
5. BC High (1) – Unlike Scituate, a COVID pause did not appear to help the Eagles. On Wednesday, BC High returned from a break and lost to Catholic Memorial, 7-2. The Eagles took down CM, 7-1, in their first meeting on Jan. 10.
6. Braintree (6) – The Wamps remained undefeated (3-0-2) by salvaging a tie with Bridgewater-Raynham on Saturday. Braintree netted the equalizer with 2:02 remaining.
7. Hanover (2) – The Hawks bounced back from their first loss of the season by defeating North Quincy, 6-1. Expect Hanover to be in the mix for the Patriot League Cup.
8. Marshfield (7) – After opening the season with a 5-2 win over Scituate, the Rams hit a rough patch. Marshfield tied Hanover and Duxbury (Marshfield won in a shootout for the Green Cup, but it officially goes down as a tie) and lost to Hingham, 5-2. Since that speed bump, the Rams have rattled off four wins. The most recent may have been the most impressive as Marshfield skated past Plymouth North, 5-0. With four other teams on this list competing for the Patriot League Cup crown, that should be a competitive tournament.
9. Norwell (NR) – The Clippers have continued to terrorize the South Shore League this winter. Norwell stretched its league unbeaten streak to 25 games with a 9-3 win over Abington on Saturday night.
10. Weymouth (10) – Since falling to Archbishop Williams in the opener, the Wildcats have rattled off four wins in a row. The Willdcats returned from a three-week COVID pause to take two from Milton.
