Pope Francis on Tuesday named Bishop Michael William Fisher, who currently serves as an auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., as Bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo, USA.
Curriculum vitae
Michael William Fisher was born on 3 March 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Bishop Fisher obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting at the University of Maryland in 1984, and worked as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) before entering seminary. He undertook his ecclesiastical studies at Mount St Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD (1986-1990),
Fisher was ordained to the priesthood for the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Washington on 23 June 1990.
Following his ordination, Fisher served as Parochial Vicar of Sacred Heart Parish in La Plata (1990-1995); Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Hillcrest Heights (1995-1999); Pastor of Saint John Neumann Parish in Gaithersburg (1999-2005); and Vicar General (2005-2006). He has served as Vicar for Clergy and Secretary for Ministerial Leadership since 2006.
Michael Fisher was named an auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Washington on 8 June 2018, and was ordained to the episcopate on 29 June of the same year.
