A REVEREND from Latchford is taking part in a 92 mile walk to raise money for a primary school.
Rev Robert Icke, Curate of Latchford St James’ Church and Curate-in-Charge of Christchurch, Latchford, is taking part in a pilgrimage walk to fundraise for St. James’ Primary School, where he is vice chair.
The money will go towards buying study books and study guides to help the children whose education was impacted by the lockdown.
By raising this money, it means the primary school pupils can take the resources home to catch up on missed education.
The target of £500 has already been surpassed, currently at £1165 and all money will go to the school.
Mr Icke, 51, will be joined on his walk by Professor Simon Piaseck of Liverpool University.
Professor Piaseck will be writing a book about their experiences on the pilgrimage so will be documenting all the conversations over the seven days.
The 92 mile walk, known as Two Saints Way, will take place over seven days.
It will begin at Chester Cathedral where Rt. Rev Mark Tanner, Bishop of Chester, will pray a blessing over the pair, and end at Litchfield Cathedral with many destinations in between.
The walkers set off on their pilgrimage walk on 23 June and will be finishing 30 June and will be greeted by bishops at both ends.
Mr Icke said: ‘‘A pilgrimage is a journey of life.
‘‘A journey where you get to be away from the busyness of life, hopefully away from phone signals, and you get to take in the nature.
‘‘Being a priest, I get time to contemplate god, the universe and everything while I’m doing the walk.’’
The church has also previously supported the school with things such as meals for those who struggle to afford them, such as providing a Christmas dinner and Christmas present to the families.
Mr Icke said: ‘‘I’m really excited.
‘‘Donations have been phenomenal.
‘‘They have been from people from the churches, from both parishes of Latchford and Stockton Heath, Great Budworth Deanery, also from friends, family and random people, even some from America.’’
