A NEW gravestone has been unveiled at the final resting place of the former Bishop of Motherwell.
Catholic Church bosses marked the second anniversary of Joseph Devin’s death with a headstone in the grounds of the town’s Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral.
The bishop, who served the diocese from 1983 until his retirement in 2013, passed away on May 23, 2019, at the age of 81.
A statement from the Motherwell Diocese read: “In recent days a new headstone has been erected at the grave of Bishop Joseph Devine in time for the second anniversary of his death.
“Bishop Devine is buried in the grounds of Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral, Motherwell, next to his predecessor, Bishop Francis Thomson.
“If you pass, please stop and offer a prayer. “
Born in Kirkintilloch, the Right Reverend Devine spent nearly six decades as a priest, serving in the likes of Pollok, and Helensburgh. He was also private secretary to the Archbishop of Glasgow during the 1960s.
