Fifteen years ago, Bishop Godfrey Siundu decided to deviate from the celibacy requirement in the Catholic priesthood and he instead married the love of his life, a nun.

With his decision came his breaking away from the Roman Catholic Church and he went on to establish the Ecumenical Catholic Church of Christ, a step he said he took upon direction from the Holy Spirit.
Speaking to TV47, the man of God and father of three said none of his many church members ever look down on him because he chose to get married and still serve as a Catholic bishop.

“After breaking away from the Roman Catholic church, I had stayed for some while before leading mass but during my wife’s birthday, I decided to lead mass and the Holy Spirit told me to tell all the people that were gathered there that I would start leading mass and also start a church that is reformed,” he said.
Since then, more than 50 other Catholic bishops have followed in his footsteps, and they all believe that he who finds a wife finds a good thing, as the Bible states.
He said Pope Francis should amend the celibacy law and give priests the right to choose whether they want to get married or not.
“Since I married my wife, I always have joy every morning and my family has brought so much satisfaction,” he said.
Siundu is a father of three daughters whom he sired with the nun turned wife.
On her part, his wife, Stellah Siundu, said her husband had helped her grow, especially in faith. She recalled that more than a decade ago, the bishop just told her they would marry her, and sure enough, he did.

“On that evening, he told me, ‘one day, I will marry you. He did not even say that he loves me or want me, he just went straight to the point and said we would get married,” she said.
