Bishop requests for prayers for coming bishops’ assembly

Military Ordinariate of the Philippines Bishop Oscar Jaime Florencio is requesting the faithful to pray for the coming 125th plenary assembly of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Bishop Florencio said prayers are necessary to ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit for the bishops’ gathering on Jan. 29 to 30 to be meaningful and successful.

“We are asking for the prayers of the lay and the consecrated persons, religious and priests to pray for all the bishops. We are more or less 100 percent complete except for those who are sick. We are asking for prayers particularly for the enlightenment of all the bishops and all those who will be leading the whole assembly,” the Church leader said over Radio Veritas.

“What we will be discussing are of great relevance to our Church, especially synodality as requested by the Holy Father Pope Francis. Other matters to be discussed will be the strengthening of the episcopal commissions of the CBCP, our offices and committees that oversee the advocacies and programs of the Church,” he added.

The 125th plenary assembly of the CBCP is set to be held at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center in Manila. It will be the second time since the pandemic that the bishops will be meeting face-to-face.

The CBCP has 88 active bishops led by its current president Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, two diocesan priest administrators, and 38 honorary members consisting of retired bishops from different dioceses.
