Remembrance Sunday in Winchester 2021

Here is what you need to know about the service taking place in Winchester on Sunday.

The Remembrance parade returns this year with members of the armed forces and veterans.

The parade will leave Winchester Guildhall at around 9.20am and will conclude at the cathedral.

A Remembrance Sunday Service will be held in the cathedral at 10am. There will be limited spaces inside the cathedral but it will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend (https://www.winchester-cathedral.org.uk/worship/live-streaming).

Following the service inside the cathedral, at 10.45am, wreaths will be laid at the cenotaph and a two-minute silence.

Bishop Debbie, the Bishop of Southampton will attend the Remembrance Sunday Service at Winchester Cathedral, after which she will join other local representatives to lay wreaths at Winchester’s war memorial.

Bishop Debbie said: “Each year we come together, in the presence of God, to give thanks for all those who have given their lives for us. We are reminded of their sacrifice and pray for those who mourn them. We also pray for those from our communities who are serving in the Armed Forces, remembering their families and friends, and praying for an end to conflicts around the world.”

In Alresford, a Remembrance Day Service will be held inside St John’s Church at 10.45am and will conclude with a two-minute silence held outside at the War Memorial.

In Bishop’s Waltham, a Remembrance Day parade will march along the High Street at 10.30am to St Peter’s Church. A service will be held inside the church at 10.50am.

The church has said: “We would love to see you at this important service as we remember all those we have lost and especially who have given their lives for us.”

The parade will return from the church to St George’s Square at around 11.40am.
