The Archdiocese of Detroit is taking the next steps in its move towards a new governance model for its parishes. The plan which was announced by Archbishop Allen Vigneron, calls for all parishes of the Archdiocese of Detroit to join together to form new groupings called “families of parishes” over the next two years. Monsignor Charles Kosanke, the pastor of the Basilica of St. Anne de Detroit and Most Holy Trinity Parish, led a committee that offered recommendations for this initiative. The monsignor joins to explain how the family of parishes will operate and what are some of its goals. He also discusses what it is about this particular moment in time that caused the archdiocese to create what is the most significant change to parish structures since the 1960s. Msgr. Kosanke gives his insight into how the “families” were grouped, what the decision was for those groupings and what the transition process will look like over the next two years. Since recently celebrating the 35th anniversary of his ordination, the pastor of the basilica in Detroit also shares what comes to mind when he reflects on his time in ministry.
